The Greatest View From Here

We have officially been in the city for 1 day. It doesn't really feel like one day, in fact, I feel like we've been here for AGES!  We arrived at 8am yesterday morning and had the greatest long day, ever (with the help of much caffeine)! Anna and I are staying with her sister's fiance's
brother (confusing), and he and his housemate are amazing! Lucky for us his housemate knows all the NYC celebrity gossip and where the guys and girls from The City hang out haha I love him already! The view out his window looks out to Olivia's apartment building! Pretty neat!
Yesterday we wondered around Tribeca, ate at this small sort of sketchy little restaurant (nothing is open at 11 am for food)! I got a BLT minus the bacon.. and Anna enjoyed a delicious huge plate of omelet. We walked around for most of the day and saw some sights. I had my interview and the people seem lovely... very kind, very helpful and it definitely looked like they want help. Fingers crossed for that one!
The office is like 5 steps away from the Park Plaza (HELLLLLOOO GOSSIP GIRL) so obviously Anna and I had an impromptu photo shoot! At night we hit up this great bar called Schiller's Liquor Bar (as recommended by the guys) and the atmosphere was great... a fun young local crowd! annd that was just day one!

We are heading to SUSHISAMBA 7 tonight... mmm

You Gotta Hear this One Song, It'll Change your Life.

If you know me, you know I have an affinity for the movie Garden State. My love for this movie goes back several years and was deepened during my first year at University, where I spent countless hours watching it over and over with a few of my floormates. We were ridiculous and would sing "THREE TIMES A LADDDYYYY" as loud as we could at the top of our lungs! I think we even watched the commentary more times than I should probably admit... Anyway, the soundtrack is probably the best compilation of songs I have seen on one disc. A mix of upbeat, sad, trippy, cool... you name it, it's perfectly placed on the album.

List of songs:

1. "Don't Panic" - Coldplay
2. "Caring is Creepy" - The Shins
3. "In the Waiting Line" - Zero 7
4. "New Slang" - The Shins
5. "I Just Don't Think I'll Get Over You" - Colin Hay
6. "Blue Eyes" - Cary Brothers
7. "Fair" - Remy Zero
8. "One of These Things First" - Nick Drake
9. "Lebanese Blonde" - Thievery Corporation
10. "The Only Living Boy In New York" - Simon & Garfunkel
11. "Such Great Heights" - Iron and Wine
12. "Let Go" - Frou Frou
13. "Winding Road" - Bonnie Somerville

I got to thinking about this album as I was sitting at Starbucks early this morning (7am) waiting for the time to tick by before my work a few shops down began. The book I was reading couldn't keep my attention, so I just sat there enjoying my Caramel Macciato (yum) and taking in the music. The familiar sounds of Thievery Corporation came on and transported me back to those memories of watching the movie with Cars and Spense...

Sorry, back to reality! I've been on the search for a band, album, compilation that in 5 years I will still enjoy... I love finding new music and am in dire need of something for my iPod. So, I'm throwing this out to the Universe... any songs I should hear?

4 Nights and 5 Days!

Time always seems to escape me. It's Monday then all the sudden it's Friday and I scramble to make plans for the weekend. I don't often do anything eventful during the week (during the winter, anyway) because the thought of trekking back out into the snow when my boots are already soaked isn't overly thrilling! Maybe that's just me at home though, because I seemed to make the effort a lot more back at school... hmm... I'm not sure! But I digress; time seems to fly and it seemed like yesterday (which was actually January) I was applying to businesses NYC and then all the sudden it's Sunday mid-day and I have 3 nights to pack and pick what I'm going to be wearing for my interview/ trip!   How does that happen? Where did 2 months go?

There is also a lot of planning involved: Restaurants, Bars, Art Shows, Museums, Parks, Cupcake stores, SHOPPING--- the list is endless and with only 4 nights and 5 days to get it all in there, too before it's back to work and real life on the following Tuesday!

Packing is also an issue because how do I know what I want to wear 5 days from now? What if I don't feel like that outfit? or you know when you have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear? Well, in my case I will have a suitcase of clothes and hopefully something to wear!! There's also a lot of walking to do done and unlike the New York socialites, I can't be wearing my Loubs (I wish) all over the City! I think I'll have to settle with a comfortable boot or cute flat!  Oh my, who knew packing would be such a hectic thing?

I need to go put my room back together after ripping it apart last night attempting to find the perfect "business causal" outfit. Wish me luck!

New York, New York!

In exactly 1 week my friend Anna and I will be heading to NYC for 5 (much needed) days in the city! There are so many things to see and do and place to eat.. mmm NYC restaurants! I've been before, but the city is amazing and there's always loads more to see.

So, I've got some destinations and tourist traps picked out and there's been lots of feedback from people about where to go in the city. I got a response back from a NYLON magazine writer about where to go see live bands(!), which should be amazing... I'm hoping to catch a local NYC band! I also wrote a guy I met last time I was in the city (he was working at the Paris Theatre-- hellllllo Sex and the City!) and he got back to me about a great reference magazine for places to go, see and eat! I'm so excited that they got back to me-- it's far more fun to hear where to go from the local New Yorkers!

I've got: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday--- NYC!  eek! Pretty exciting!

Facebook

News broke today that Facebook owns your life. I'm not too sure why this is suddenly "news" as anything you send through e-mail is automatically the property of the e-mail provider and the same applies to facebook, but anyway, when you post images, notes, whatever, Facebook can do what they like with it. I guess that means that the awful ads at the side of the page: "What's you credit score", "I made $1 million dollars last month" etc could feature my face. Ok, that's a bit scary! Facebook is a great tool for communication and I can't help but love it.

I'm sure you've read someone's "25 Things" notes which flew around facebook faster than... well, faster than something really fast. It's late. I'm tired. So I found a video on YouTube which I need to share:

watch. love.

I feel like I'm 15 again.

Rumor had it that Blink 182 were going to reunite tonight at the Grammy's. Not to perform, but to present, which pretty sweet. Well they came through, presented and announced that they would indeed be recording a new album! Album= Tour!

So, my friend AB and I have discussed our undying love for Blink since the day we met 5 years ago. He has had the luxury of seeing them several times. I on the other hand, have not. I'm hoping this is going to be my opportunity!

If you hear when they are playing Toronto, do me a favour and let me know when!

Oh, and Universe, if you read this, think you can hook us up with some backstage passes?

VISA must love me!

It's Saturday evening at 10:07pm and I have no money to spend at the bars this evening. It is entirely my fault as I saw a pair of the cutest Huntress boots in black that would be "perfect for walking to work" (this is what I told myself to justify the money). They now sit perfectly at my front door waiting for Monday morning at 7am, when I will rush out the door and jam my feet in to my new amazing boots. I am hoping they make my work outfit (scrubs) look a little cuter than they are; I have a feeling they may give the illusion of parachute pants, which were (questionably) cool 20 years ago and really should no longer be seen on anyone. Ever.

Hmm… I think I have a shopping problem. I find it not only fun, but it brings me all sorts of happiness both temporarily and long term. I rarely regret purchases (the exception being a $100 jacket I bought at a new store downtown that fell apart nearly instantly. ugh.) and I love everything hanging in my closet... There is nothing better than looking and feeling great!

These clothes are not for nothing (grammatically correct?). They are because I am searching for a real person job. I’m not entirely sure what happens in a real person job or how I am to go about obtaining such a position, but I do believe that a cute pencil skirt, great top and stellar shoes may help my cause!

So, in order to get said job, I am going to have to look work appropriate thus justifying my purchases of clothing, shoes and accessories. It makes sense to me!
